Commissioned by AlmResidency, this ceramic creature was installed along the residency’s new public sculpture trail on the Rechelkopf mountain in the Bavarian Alps.
In the stream below the Ochsenhütte, a creature dwells that resembles an octopus. Though it lacks tentacles, it stubbornly resists the current, surrounded by the clear, icy-cold mountain water.
The sculpture serves both as a work of art and as a shelter for small fish and amphibians. Within its belly, the flowing water briefly slows, creating a tiny, sheltered microhabitat—a safe space to pause, rest, and seek refuge from the current and potential predators.
