In her work series “Flut”, Totzauer not only combines the media of video and ceramics, she also creates an intermediate creature of octopus and spider, whose body is waiting to be processed on a butcher‘s table. In „Flut I“ the animal‘s last moments under water are reflected in its eyes. It watched a human drown before it was removed from its habitat and is now struggling with death itself.

The haunting gaze of the doomed animal in „Flut II“ on the butcher‘s table draws us into the depths of human anatomy.

Endoscopic footage of the esophagus and intestines becomes the creature‘s inner landscape, leading us into the profoundly human essence within.

“Flut” deals with the apocalyptic dance of the species. Where man has always considered himself the ruler of the world and superior to all other animals, his power over the environment now seems to be slipping away.
